# Benchlight

> Benchlight is a website builder and host for small businesses: make a site with the free starter or with Claude, publish it free on a benchlight.page address, or use your own domain.

One static website per account can be published free at an address ending in benchlight.page, with a small Benchlight credit and no card needed. Benchlight is a Winter Watermelon business. [About Benchlight](https://benchlight.dev/about).

Benchlight supports built HTML/CSS/JavaScript browser websites and supported npm/Vite source builds from connected GitHub projects when project build readiness permits. For an eligible browser website you bring, hosting has a 14-day free trial; a payment card is required to start, then hosting costs $9/month or $99/year. There is no $249 rebuild fee for files you bring; domain registration is separate. Server code, databases, accounts, payments, provider-backed forms, WordPress and stores need separate transfer checks. A browser preview is not proof those services have migrated.

Benchlight is available in [Claude’s directory](https://claude.ai/directory/benchlight). Read the [Claude guide](https://benchlight.dev/claude). It can create and edit private website drafts, read an existing public site and eligible pictures, show draft screenshots, check a domain and email setup without changing settings, and report recorded daily site visits. It publishes to the account’s one free benchlight.page site only after separate publishing permission and confirmation. An older connection must reconnect to grant that permission. Publishing another draft replaces the existing free site. Paid hosting, purchases and domain changes remain customer actions on Benchlight. Drafts expire 30 days after the last change, with up to ten versions retained. See the [Privacy policy](https://benchlight.dev/privacy). Benchlight’s ChatGPT app is in OpenAI’s review and is not yet in ChatGPT’s app directory.

A signed-in customer can also start and edit a private starter draft on Benchlight before choosing a domain. This uses business details and contact links; it does not create a store, booking system, customer accounts or server application.
